Our Rift Sawn White Oak lumber is a highly desirable material, prized for its exceptional stability and distinctly elegant, straight grain pattern. Achieved by cutting the log perpendicular to the growth rings, the rift sawing technique produces boards with a straight grain pattern that is clean and linear, minimizing the traditional fleck or flake seen in other cuts. Aesthetically, the sapwood is light-colored, while the heartwood ranges from a light to dark brown. White Oak features a medium-to-coarse texture and a predominantly straight grain, characterized by having longer rays than Red Oak. These longer rays contribute to more prominent figure (the visual pattern in the wood) on the rift-sawn face, giving the wood a subtle, sophisticated shimmer. This combination of a straight grain, high durability, and prominent figure makes Rift Sawn White Oak an ideal choice for fine furniture, paneling, and architectural millwork.
