PATAGONIAN ROSEWOOD

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The heartwood ranges from pale reddish-brown to dark orange-brown with dramatic dark streaks throughout, and it darkens significantly with light exposure. The distinct sapwood is light yellow or off-white. It has a fine, uniform texture with a high natural luster and an interlocked grain that creates a subtle ribbon figure.
WORKING PROPERTIES
It is a tough wood to work because of its extreme density and interlocked grain, which dulls cutting edges quickly—carbide tools are a must. Low cutting angles help avoid tearout while planing. Gluing requires careful surface prep with solvent to handle its natural oils, but it turns, carves, and polishes up to a high natural shine.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Patagonian Rosewood is an extremely dense, heavy hardwood with exceptional strength, stiffness, and compression values. It boasts an insanely high Janka hardness rating (around 3,840 lbf), making it vastly harder than standard domestic woods like oak or maple. It offers top-tier natural resistance to rot and insects.
MAIN USES
High-end commercial and residential hardwood flooring, heavy-duty timber and posts, decking, railway ties, tool handles, billiard cues, specialty turnings, and fine furniture or decorative veneers.
